Lenny Winchell
MCAR, Inc.
Lenny grew up in Greenville in a poor family
with four other siblings and his parents. His
home environment was socially deprived with very
little contact with the community other than
school, where he attended special education
classes until he graduated. His years following
graduation were tumultuous. He had socially
inappropriate behaviors and anger issues during
the rare contacts he did have with anyone
outside of his immediate family.
From 1992 through 1995, Lenny worked in the MCAR
Pallet shop, while he resided in one of MCAR’s
group homes. During that time in the Pallet
shop, he demonstrated that he was capable of
learning the skills necessary to produce the
quality product needed. However, he was
struggling socially. At the end of 1995, Lenny
terminated his services at MCAR then returned to
live with his family.
In 2004, Lenny and his parents moved to
Hermitage. A year later, he decided to return to
a day program. Lenny was readmitted to MCAR on
October 11, 2005. When Lenny returned, it was
apparent he was a different person. He presented
himself as a more focused, calm individual. He
informed staff of this by stating “I’m a
different person than I used to be”. Time would
tell.
And tell it has. His supervisor remarked that
after being shown a new job skill the first
time, he can perform it with accuracy and
quality. He is willing to try any new task. He
further stated, “Lenny has not failed at
anything”. He has gained many new friends and
the respect of staff. Lenny can be depended upon
to help out in any situation as well as adjust
to unexpected changes. He takes great pride in
all his responsibilities. Time has proven that
with the right opportunities, guidance, and
encouragement, Lenny has matured into a
dependable employee that any employer would be
proud to have represent his/her company!
