Joyce Thompson
CPARC
In 1977, Joyce completed an Associated Degree in
Secretarial Science at Williamsport Community
College. Since that time however, Joyce has
faced and overcome many challenges in life.
Working with the Office of Vocational
Rehabilitation. (OVR), she has received
additional training in office technology,
computers and office software through JFC’s
Career Development Program. To be able to attend
this program she has to learn to navigate the
public bus transportation system. This involved
the need to cross a very busy street at the
location where the program was held. Even though
concerned with her slow gait and the possibility
of falling while crossing the street, she
conquered her fears and successfully completed
the program.
In October 2003, Joyce was referred to CPARC by
OVR and hired as a Photo License Technician
within PIBH’s Photo License Program. She has
capably learned all the various aspects required
of her position and has become a valuable asset
to the program. She willingly fills in and
substitutes to cover work hours for co-workers
to assure required staffing of the Carlisle
Photo License Center. Joyce’s PIBH District
Manager states: “Joyce is one of the most polite
people I have ever met. No matter what her
personal circumstances may be, she is always
pleasant. She carries herself with pride and
grace.”
In addition, her past OVR Vocational
Rehabilitation Counselor states: “I believe
Joyce is a very courageous person. She has had
many reasons to back away from numerous
challenges but chose to move forward.” It should
also be noted that Joyce has recently conquered
another challenge by returning to driving an
automobile.
