James Laity
United Rehabilitation Services, Inc.
Jim came to URS four years ago to inquire about
employment in the community. He explained that
he had been a heavy equipment operator up until
his mid 50’s when he had to leave his job due to
increasing pain associated with degenerative
joint disease. Jim was also diagnosed with
diabetes during that time. He underwent a period
of physical therapy, however was unable to
return to his previous position. Jim wanted to
find part time employment that did not require
excessive physical stamina to supplement his
social security disability income.
The Photo ID Program was explained to him and he
soon began employment as a Photo License
Technician at the Tunkhannock Photo Center.
Jim’s job placement and training with PIBH
District Managers began in June of 2003. Since
his hire date Jim has proven himself to be a
devoted employee. He reports to work promptly,
exhibits excellent customer service skills and
is cooperative working with our Penn Dot
partners. Jims shows compassion toward other
techs that may need help learning new job skills
and requirements. He has never denied employer
requests to work special coverage hours. Jim
will fill in for other technicians at the
Montrose Photo Center when asked, does site
coverage for semi-annual floor care or
installing special equipment and reporting to
the site for after hour alarm calls.
Jim’s placement at the Photo Center has given
him an increased self image and aided him in
improving his quality of life. This may not have
been possible without the help of PIBH and their
numerous programs for persons with disabilities.
