Tyrone Kennedy
Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services of
Pittsburgh
In 1991 at the age of 28, Tyrone had a detached
retina in his right eye. As a result of this, he
lost complete vision in that eye and it had to
be removed. Tyrone now has prosthesis in his
right eye. He was working as a prep cook at
various hospitals until 2001, when he was
diagnosed with Glaucoma in his left eye. As a
result from this, he lost his job.
Before Tyrone was diagnosed with his eye
conditions, he was extremely active in sports.
Tyrone loved to play basketball and lift
weights. After coming to Blind and Vision
Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh, Tyrone
began to realize that he is not alone with his
disability. He has received great advice from
fellow co-workers that have similar vision
problems. Tyrone has improved greatly over the
past two and a half years on his social skills
and his independence.
Tyrone has great potential within our agency,
his quality and quantity of work is excellent
and we depend on him greatly. We are currently
in the process of cross training him in the
different departments of our agency.
